Synopsis:

Four storytellers
One ancient demon
No way out…
Four women who call themselves The Storytellers have gathered one hot August evening to tell tales, as they have for years. But on this night, they unknowingly evoke the powers of an ancient Mayan idol that breathes real life into their stories. The Mayan idol isn’t the only ancient being awakened. A power-hungry demon is determined to see the women fail and become enslaved to him forever.
Now the women’s lives depend on surviving each other’s stories, defeating the demon and solving a centuries-old mystery.
If they survive until The End untold wealth is theirs. But some stories have a life of their own…

THE STORYTELLER: Professor Alex Abernathy

Tamara pulled up to the house in her Jeep Wrangler, no roof, no doors, the same jeep as Alex’s Summer Man, Lars. His was perpetually caked with the dust of the desert. Encrusted with it, as they both had been. It occurred to Alex that she’d never noticed what color his Jeep was and shivered, recalling how his eyes reminded her of the last glow of an Athenian sunset.

Alex missed Lars and the power he had over her. She’d never felt this way about any of her Summer Men, no matter how exotic their homeland. Summer Men were easily kept at bay and out of her heart. The day she met Lars she knew they’d be lovers. Last month when they had to be apart for a week, she could barely deliver her lectures in Aman because of the ache she felt inside. A hollowness. A vague invisibility.

A handful of times over the past few weeks, Alex would open her cedar mailbox and find Lars’s hand-written letters sealed with wax, as old-school as himself. The sight of his letters made her heart race and her cheeks hot, thrilling her the same way Lars would when he simply entered a room. He always signed them Forever Yours, Moonlight. He told Alex she was his sun. That the world would be dark until once again fate brought them together. She shivered remembering the gleam in his eye and his unwavering certainty that fate would. His way with words brought Alex to her knees.

Lars was the only Summer Man she let into her Winter World. But this year, her Winter World of tranquility, responsibility and decidedly less passion crept up to the carefully crafted illusion of her gregarious, uncompromising other life.

About the Author:

I love writing about enchanted road trips, cursed storytellers, shadow worlds, and alien romance while eating lots of popcorn.
After twenty-plus years as a freelance graphic designer/animator with clients including E! Entertainment Television and The Los Angeles Times, I left the real world behind and followed my heart into the world of fiction. Little known fun facts––I can’t kill a spider but would gladly kill the tomato-plant eating gophers in my yard if I could get my hands on them, I wouldn’t mind dying in a vat of salted carmel ice cream from Portland’s Salt & Straw, next on my dream list is a trip to Indonesia, I daydream of doing stand-up comedy when I’m not completely terrified of it.
