Country Girls by Tressa Messenger

Tressa is no stranger to my blog and it's always a pleasure to welcome her back here. She has a new release, Country Girls and is here today to share the gorgeous cover art, a little taster of what her latest book is all about, as well as generous rafflecopter giveaways - $20 Visa, signed book, Ebook, and swag!

About Country Girls....

Marissa left town as soon as high school ended, carrying with her deep dark secrets that she never intended to divulge, but once she went back home after twenty years for her high school reunion she knew that was exactly where she wanted to be.  Once back in her home town in North Carolina it all comes rushing back to her, both good and bad, even the uncontrollable desire for her first love, who happened to be her best friend’s husband.

Marissa and her three best friends could never have imagined the events that would take place once these once inseparable County girls are back together again or the hot nights that are sure to come.

About Tressa....

I am a small town girl with big dreams. I grew up in a small coastal community called Pamlico County in the town of Reelsboro, North Carolina. Growing up in such a rural area there wasn't much to do, so I developed a wide fantasy finding solace in writing poetry and songs. Being a gypsy at heart I left my little secure coastal town to discover other parts of the country, always looking for my next adventure. It was a sad and lonely time, but also a fun and exciting time in my life. I had too many emotions to process so I started to put it all down on paper. That became the start of my first novel, which I have yet to finish.

When I was 30 I sat down and felt an overwhelming urge to write, even though I had no clue where to start. I spent that year writing nonstop until my first complete novel entitled Protector was finished. This novel was a dream come true, although I found out during the process, at 31 years old, I am dyslexic. Reading was always a struggle throughout my life and finding out why has really made a difference in me and my writing. Writing is such a wonderful and daunting process, but I have succeeded in doing something I never thought I would do.

As of now I have 5 novels published: Protect, Protect Me, Protect Us, Too Close To Home and This I Promise You, with many more on the way. Writing is such a passion of mine and I hope my readers feel the love I put into my work and know that no matter your past, you can do anything.

You only get one first of anything, and no matter the time, or space, or age, you never forget your firsts.

When thirteen year old Nicky Moore’s parents decide to buy a small summer beach cottage at Atlantic
Beach, North Carolina, she thought her life would end. It didn’t matter the beauty of the area - land and water as far as the eye could see - she was bound and determined to make her family’s summer vacation as dismal as she felt. That was until she met a boy from down the beach; a beautiful boy, with the most intense brown eyes she had ever seen and a smile that could light the ocean on fire. A summer that Nicky thought was doomed from the start, turned into a summer that she would never forget; one full of firsts. It was impossible for her to know years later how one seemingly little decision could change everything forever, but soon, as an adult, Nicky will find out that everything she once thought were real and the promises once made, were lost in a sea of inner turmoil.

I'm not even sure where to begin. How do you explain what an impact a story has on one self? This story is one so very special to me and I put a lot of tears into writing it.
After a friend of mine came to me and presented a book idea to me, which has happened many times since becoming a writer, immediately the story unfolded in my mind. I knew the exact story I wanted to tell. A story that I felt needed to be told. It is a story of finding yourself through young love and trying to maintain that love through life’s obstacles. This story is so very special to me because this story is about me and someone who was very special to me, my first love. I am truly honored to be able to share it with you.
My story is not very unlike the one you are about to read. I fell in love for the first time when I was just 13 years old with the most beautiful boy I had ever known, Jeremy Hayes Hewett. Some told me it was just a crush, a child’s fantasy, and some just dismissed it all together. They were all wrong. Yes, I was 13 and that is young, but I knew how I felt and they did not. He was a truly special person who had the biggest heart of anyone I had ever known. We dated the entire school year until I moved away at the end of the school year. We continued to stay in touch after I moved away, but long distance relationships are hard whether you are 13 or 31 and like so many long distance relationships it didn’t last. Slowly, the once constant letters and phone calls started becoming fewer and further in between until they stopped all together. I would always think about him from time to time though whether I was driving through his hometown, or if I heard a certain song on the radio. I sang our song “I Swear” every night for a year.

Finally, when I was nineteen, I contacted everyone that I could think of who knew him or would possibly know how to contact him, and since this was before advances in technology had taken off I decided to leave it up to the universe. If we were meant to be, then we would be. As the years went by the universe remained steadily quiet, so once again I grew impatient and took it upon myself to try and locate him once more. Unfortunately, this time I did find out where he was, but what I found out was the LAST thing I had ever expected to hear. My first love had been dead for three years after taking his life. The impact of his death left me in complete shock, and after the shock, there was guilt. I was utterly consumed by guilt because oddly enough, it had been exactly three years since I had last tried to find him, I felt guilty for not trying harder. I thought that maybe, had I known what he was going through I could’ve helped him.

Well, what I can’t do, as much as I wish I could, is go back and help him, but what I can do now is share this story in the hopes that it may help someone else. So, that is what I have done. He and I may have only had that one perfect year together when we were kids, but it was a time in my life I will never forget. I often wonder had he and I stayed together how would our lives have played out? People always say that if they could go back in time and change anything in their life they wanted to they wouldn’t change a thing. But if you knew that was the ending would you change it if you could do it all over again? I would.

Guest blog...Please Welcome Tressa Messenger

Please show a warm and festive welcome to Tressa Messenger, who is here today to talk about her latest paranormal romance release,  Protect Us.

So, Tressa, take it away. Tell us a bit more about yourself...

Thanks for having me here today, Sam. I am a small town girl with big dreams. I grew up in a small coastal community called Pamlico County in the town of Reelsboro, North Carolina. Growing up in such a rural area there wasn't much to do, so I developed a wide fantasy finding solace in writing poetry and songs. After leaving high school I left my little secure coastal town to discover other parts of the country using life as my teacher. It was a sad and lonely time, but also a fun and exciting time in my life. I had too many emotions to process so I started to put it all down on paper. That became the start of my first novel, which I have yet to finish.

A few years later I wrote my first complete novel entitled Protector. This novel was a dream come true, although I found out during the process, at 31 years old, I am dyslexic. Reading was always a struggle throughout my life and finding out why has really made a difference in me and my writing. Writing was such a wonderful and daunting process, but I have succeeded in doing something I never thought I would do. I have 4 novels published, Protect, Protect Me, Protect Us and Too Close To Home, with many more on the way. Writing is such a passion of mine and I hope my readers feel the love I put into my work. You can also find me on Smashwords Twitter: @tressamessenger and Facebook: Tressa Messenger.

And about your book, Protect Us...

Anna-Marie and Alessandro work hard to provide a stable life for their only child, Gemma. The child that was bestowed to them by their goddess Ameretat for reasons still unknown. Like Alessandro’s mother did to him, Anna-Marie works diligently to protect her special daughter and lead her away from following in her father’s footsteps in becoming a Protector.

Weeks before Gemma’s eighteenth birthday Gemma has a magical night with a boy, Ford Chase, who just may have been “the one”. They laughed and danced and kissed under the moon light. That is before he was forcefully taken away from her by a Rogue. Gemma desperately chases after them, but to no avail. Heartbroken and angry Gemma vows right then and there, despite her parents pleading, she will join the Protector order on her eighteenth birthday and avenge Ford’s death. No one could foresee the events that would ensue thereafter and little by little the gifts that Ameretat blessed Gemma with become apparent and are far more than anyone could ever imagine.

Heres an excerpt from Chapter One

She watches him from behind as she crouches down, hidden behind a pile of cut wood, as he circles the beast with slow graceful strides, a shiny blade gripped in his right hand. His eyes are as black as the darkening night that surrounds them.
Hunched in an animalistic pose, the beast glares at him through slanted hateful yellow eyes, waiting for the man to strike. The man smiles a defiant smile at the beast then runs towards him with non-human like speed. But instead of striking, the man jumps into the air over the beast’s seven foot tall stature, taking the beast completely by surprise. Before the beast has a chance to turn around to face the man, the shiny blade slices through the beast’s neck like a hot knife through butter. The beast stares at him blankly for a split second, stunned that the man got the drop on him. And to think he thought he was invincible! The beast soon drops to the ground in a bloody heap. A dark mass pools around him, his eyes still open staring at nothing.
Frozen in place, the girl continues to watch with wide eyes, unable to stop staring at the dead beast covered in his own retched, diseased blood and the dark man breathing heavily over him. Surprisingly, she isn’t afraid but rather curious. She shifts her body, causing the loose gravel to crunch under her feet. She freezes at the sound and slowly turns her head towards the man to see if he heard it, too, knowing all too well that he did. The breath catches in her throat when she sees that he’s nowhere to be seen. She looks around wildly for the man, but finds no one. Feeling terrified and alone, she turns again to leave the way she came, staying close to the ground but instead comes face to face with the man, well his knees anyway. She looks up the length of his body, his black-as-night eyes changing to a softer shade of brown as he glares at her. Speechless, the girl falls back onto the ground in complete surprise and stares up at him with eyes as wide as the moon above.
“Damn it, Gemma! What the hell are you doing out here?”
